A History of Favorites in Recent Memory
Listmaking is a bitter joy. There's definite satisfaction in ironing out what really stood out each year, but at the same time, there's always some level of doubt that there are other films more deserving. Moreover, some films simply don't stand the test of time well (and one of the best examples of that may be 1999, where Fight Club remains a cornerstone of cinema and The Matrix has become a caricature of itself). So, as with the ratings, consider these more as references than the hard fact.
